I was recently contacted by Simon Owens about a very interesting infographic (shown above) that was designed by Jess3. I was excited to say the least because I am a huge fan of infographics! The creativity/time put into some of these graphics is astounding to me and they are becoming more and more popular everyday. Well done Jess3 … well done.
Let’s look at some of the numbers that stand out to me.
- There are more mobile Facebook users than there are Gmail users as a whole.
- This might not be shocking to some, but for me, I was shocked to know that Yahoo has more mail users than Gmail?!?
- Looking at Facebook’s mobile user base compared to Foursquares entire user base, it seems Facebook should do real well with Facebook Places. But like I said in my last article, I hope Facebook makes some changes to Facebook Places soon.
- Seriously, who uses Hotmail? I haven’t ran into a Hotmail user in YEARS!
- Skype is gobbling up the competition when it comes to the number of users and with their recent mobile apps/changes you should start seeing an increase in mobile users.
One tweak I would love to see in this graphic would be to narrow down the “Mobile Devices Globally” sphere and filter out the people that don’t use their cell phones as a internet browsing device or use any form of apps. Have the sphere represent the people that actually use their phones/smartphones for social media and internet service. This would help to compare and see who has the leg up a little easier, in my opinion.
What about everybody else? anything surprise you?
