The Geosocial Universe – Infographic

I was recently contacted by Simon Owens about a very interesting infographic (shown above) that was designed by Jess3.  I was excited to say the least because I am a huge fan of infographics!  The creativity/time put into some of these graphics is astounding to me and they are becoming more and more popular everyday.  Well done Jess3 … well done.

Let’s look at some of the numbers that stand out to me.

1. There are more mobile Facebook users than there are Gmail users as a whole.
2. This might not be shocking to some, but for me, I was shocked to know that Yahoo has more mail users than Gmail?!?
3. Looking at Facebook’s mobile user base compared to Foursquares entire user base, it seems Facebook should do real well with Facebook Places.  But like I said in my last article, I hope Facebook makes some changes to Facebook Places soon.
4. Seriously, who uses Hotmail?  I haven’t ran into a Hotmail user in YEARS!
5. Skype is gobbling up the competition when it comes to the number of users and with their recent mobile apps/changes you should start seeing an increase in mobile users.

One tweak I would love to see in this graphic would be to narrow down the “Mobile Devices Globally” sphere and filter out the people that don’t use their cell phones as a internet browsing device or use any form of apps.  Have the sphere represent the people that actually use their phones/smartphones for social media and internet service.  This would help to compare and see who has the leg up a little easier, in my opinion.
